Incorporating Your dog into Your Wedding Day Photos
For many couples, pets are more than just animals—they're family. Including your furry friends in your wedding day photos is a beautiful way to celebrate their place in your life and make your special day even more memorable. Whether it’s your playful pup, curious cat, or even a beloved bunny, here’s how to incorporate your pets into your wedding photos seamlessly.
1. Consider Your Pet’s Personality
Before bringing your pet to your wedding, think about their temperament. Are they comfortable around large groups of people? Will they stay calm during the hustle and bustle of a wedding day? If your pet is on the shy side, a quieter moment for photos, like a first look or a pre-ceremony session, might be best.
2. Choose a Pet-Friendly Venue
Not all venues allow animals, so double-check with your venue beforehand. Many Indianapolis wedding venues, like The Bluffs at Conner Prairie and Regions Tower, have outdoor spaces perfect for pet-friendly photos.
Alternatively, we can do some photos with your pet at a park during photo time.

3. Dress Them for the Occasion
A floral collar, bowtie, or bandana can add a touch of wedding-day charm without overwhelming your pet. Keep it simple and comfortable—after all, you want them to look adorable while staying relaxed.

4. Hire or Assign a Pet Handler
Your wedding day will be full of excitement, so I recommend hiring a professional to help out. One of my favorite's is: Your day dog Chauffer. They will pick up your pup, get them dressed and photo ready, & assist with getting those adorable photos everyone loves. This also allows your friends and family can enjoy the day without being on doggy duty.
5. Plan Specific Photo Moments
Work with your photographer to plan moments where your pet can shine. Some popular ideas include:
Getting Ready Shots: Snuggle with your pet while getting ready.
First Look: Have your pet join you for a sweet and candid first-look moment.
Ceremony Exit: Capture a fun photo as you walk out as newlyweds, with your pet by your side.
6. Practice Makes Perfect
If your pet will wear an accessory or pose for photos, let them get comfortable beforehand. Practice walking them around in their attire or rehearsing moments like walking down the aisle .
7. Bring Treats and Toys
Keep your pet happy and focused with their favorite treats and toys. These can be a great way to capture playful, candid moments.
Your pets presence on the wedding day adds a personal, heartfelt touch. Whether they’re walking down the aisle or simply posing for a photo, having them there is a memory you’ll treasure forever.
As a wedding photographer who adores capturing pet-loving couples, I know how to make your furry family member feel at ease. If you’re planning to include your pet in your wedding, let’s chat!
